Somethings to consider
Organising Your Session
Bands:
Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse
As a general rule of thumb you need to allocate at least 2 hours per song plus an hour arrival/setting up and an hour preparing the final Cd’s.
If you are well rehearsed you can therefore hope to complete three songs (with fairly basic arrangements) in a day session. You will always, however, get better results if you mix the songs on a separate day- everyone’s ears will be tired after 8 hours of music!
A full, automated mix of a song can take between 45 mins and 4hrs+ depending on the kind of detail you want.
Make sure your equipment works, you have appropriate spares and the correct leads/ adaptors etc.
Bring some reference Cd’s that you like the sound of.
Relax and have a drink etc AFTER you have finished your parts.
Although not scientifically proven studio time operates at approximately twice the speed of normal time!
Acoustic Artists:
Own, beg, steal or borrow the best quality guitar you can, even with good mics cheap acoustics sound like cheap acoustics.
Rehearse playing your songs whilst not singing out loud- sometimes it works better to record the vocals separately.
I have good contacts with a variety of different musicans if you need other instruments added to your work
